Introduction

The SPARK Social Enterprise programme offers your company the opportunity to participate in the international safari of 2018. From Monday the 12th to Friday the 16th of March, 60 experts and social entrepreneurs from Belgium, England and the Netherlands will meet to discuss the most current themes.

Day 1 - Monday 12th March
Keynote - Jos Wienen (Mayor of Haarlem)

Jos Wienen took office on September 21, 2016. He is the figurehead and the representative of the City of Haarlem. What strikes him most about Haarlem is the large number of people that are involved in developing ideas and initiatives. Jos Wienen supports this entrepreneurial spirit and will share with you his vision for the future of this innovative city.

Mission mapping | Using storytelling and theatre techniques

You’re an entrepreneur and good at your profession. But how do you stand out from the crowd? How do you distinguish yourself? By telling your own unique story about what you do and why you’re passionate about it. Discover, Map and Share your vision during this storytelling theatre training. You’ll get to know everyone in a refreshing manner and are sure to be inspired.

Day 2 - Tuesday 13th March
Keynote - Ido de Vries (lecturer Social Innovation and Entrepreneurship / HS Leiden)

Ido de Vries has been teaching Applied Psychology for 6 years and is responsible for the specialization Social Entrepreneurship. He comes from a practical background: he worked as a playground leader in Amsterdam and as a youth policy and safety official. After graduating in clinical psychology, he later completed a Master of Youth and Education Policy at the University of Nottingham (UK). Working with young people and helping them to create a place in the social domain gives him a lot of energy. In addition to his teaching duties, he conducts PhD research into the relationship between social entrepreneurship and meaning.

Stakeholder Meeting (for stakeholders only)

Who are the stakeholders among us and how can (local) governments, financial institutions, knowledge institutions, consultants and funding partners promote social entrepreneurship? Stakeholders are crucial to create an environment in which SEs can grow and innovate.

This program for the entrepreneurs contains a number of workshops and clinics to assist you in your own innovation journey.

Visit Social Enterprises

We split up in two groups. Group 1 will pay a visit to Kennemer Energie, the facility for collective solar power installations. Together with local promoters, building owners and municipalities, Kennemer Energie makes clean power available for everyone. Group 2 will go to MAAK, an innovation centre for sustainability, recycling and 3D printing.

Day 3 - Wednesday 14th March
Keynote - Jan van Betten (founder of Nudge)

Jan van Betten had a successful career of more than 20 years working for listed global companies. The last 5 years as CEO at Reed Elsevier Germany. He then decided to dedicate his skills and expertise to creating a more sustainable society and to inspire people. Nudge is a company with a mission: to achieve lasting behavioural changes among individuals and organizations in the fields of climate, energy, the environment and social sustainability.

Action Learning sets

Action Learning Sets is a unique method used to identify the root cause of your problem as an entrepreneur. In small groups of 5-8 people under the guidance of a moderator you submit - in turns - a problem to the group. This interactive discussion with your peers allows you the opportunity to reflect on your organization's position in terms of development and innovation. You will be helped further you mission with tips, links and perhaps even connections.

Morning:

We visit The Haarlemmer Kweektuin. A beautiful park with an organic self-harvest garden and a circular lunchroom called the Kweekcafé. Another group will visit Brownies and Downies, a lunchroom run by people with a mental disability and pay a visit to DeDakkas where the founders are on a mission to create a sustainable catering pavilion. A green and urban place where you can go all year round and enjoy superb food and drinks, unique and varied experiences and a spectacular view over the beautiful city centre.

Afternoon:
The Haarlemmer Kweektuin (see morning program)

And the other group will visit Mooizooi, a social, sustainable and creative warehouse where clean and safe residual waste and residual material from companies is collected and offered for creative purposes. Mooizooi is also an employment and day centre project for people with a (temporary) distance to the labour market. End your day on top of the parking garage the Kamp in the centre of Haarlem where the founders of DeDakkas are on a mission to create a sustainable catering pavilion. A green and urban place where you can go all year round and enjoy superb food and drinks, unique and varied experiences and a spectacular view over the beautiful city centre.

  • If you do an action learning set in the morning, you will visit the social enterprises in the afternoon;

Day 4 - Thursday 15th March
Venue for the day: Hogeschool Rotterdam; Kralingse Zoom 91, Rotterdam

On the fourth day of the safari, six teams dive into the city of Rotterdam to play the game ‘ Searching for the Secret Six’ . In a playful manner, you will search and visit social enterprises in the most famous and notorious neighbourhoods of the city. Under the inspirational guidance of Hogeschool Rotterdam students, you will dive into an interactive voyage of discovery, looking for the big 6 of Rotterdam.

The wrap-up

On our final day, we will take time to reflect on the past week. We will share insights, connections and plans for the future. This ensures we are better prepared to harvest what we have learnt and put it into practice. Vlogs made by students during the game drive through the city of Rotterdam will be showcased. Our learnings and experiences are summarized and compiled in a workshop. After lunch everyone is free to go home. Inspired and Energised!

MAAK Haarlem
MAAK Haarlem provides a location for the innovative tech sector. The mix of entrepreneurs creates cross-fertilization and cooperation between the different manufacturing techniques. You can find a mix of craft manufacturing companies, where 3D-printing, new digital making techniques, recycling and circular economy play a big role. Woodwerk, Mergent and the other entrepreneurs at MAAK Haarlem are great examples of this important sector.
3D Makerszone
3DMZ is central within MAAK Haarlem. This company is the first 3D printing factory in the Netherlands and is a leader in this innovative business. 3DMZ is not only a manufacturer, the venue also opens his doors for businesses and education institutions to learn more about their workfield and innovation. They organize various events about technology and innovation for interested organisations and individuals.
Kennemer Energie
Kennemer Energie helps with the realization of collective solar power installations for corporations and institutions. Inhabitants of Haarlem are able to generate local sustainable energy for themselves. In this way, citizens, corporations, social institutions and the municipality are working together to create a sustainable living environment and a climate neutral Haarlem in 2030.
Haarlemmer Kweektuinen
Haarlemmer Kweektuinen is a beautiful park with an organic self-harvest garden and a circular lunchroom called the Kweekcafé. This lunchroom is a place for both young and old, for Haarlem and surroundings, for innovators,makers and inspirers. It is a place where you find inspiration in the field of food, nature, innovation and design. Haarlemmer Kweektuinen is a platform for talented people and organizations to connect.
Brownies & Downies
Brownies & Downies is a lunchroom which was born out of idealism. A combination of great food and the unique service of employees with a handicap and a distance to the labour market. The mission to make paid labour for people with a handicap possible. Brownies & Downies Haarlem was founded in October 2016 and is a huge success.
DakKas
The unique thing about the DakKas is, they are still building! On top of the parking garage de Kamp in the city centre of Haarlem, three inspired men are on a mission to create a sustainable catering pavilion. A green and urban place, where you can enjoy superb food and drinks, the whole year round. Share unique experiences and get inspired by each other while enjoying the amazing view over the city centre of Haarlem. The aspiration is to open the DakKas in March,2018.
MooiZooi
MooiZooi is a social, sustainable and creative warehouse where clean and safe residual waste and residual material from companies is collected and offered for creative purposes. Mooizooi is also an employment and day centre project for people with a (temporary) distance to the labour market. At MooiZooi you can find various crazy items and unique craft materials, that would otherwise be rubbish.
